About
The HDS Hands brings us to the 1980s where we relied heavily on inspiration from renowned functionalist Dieter Rams, a name synonymous with brutally beautiful, industrially iconic German engineering and design. The elements of the HDS offer a deft blend of German minimalist expression inspired by the best of Rams’s work for Braun.
All three versions feature a bold oversized outer minutes ring surrounding two separate hours tracks – one housing clean Arabic numerals, the other line markers.
The separate concentric rings give off a stepped effect, enhanced by the subtly darker gray of the outer minutes ring. Note the hands: in lieu of staid, straight pieces, we’ve tapered them, adding some contrasting curve and liveliness to the domination of straight lines. What’s more, the gasket yellow is echoed through the dial emblem and seconds hand.
